What we would compare first
We compared matching extraction conditions and input watts, then checked chassis size, tank volume, airflow, noise, weight, controls and warranty. We did not treat the 20L and 25L names as normal-home collection forecasts.
MeacoDry Arete Two 20L

MeacoDry Arete Two 25L
Best paper fit: Persistent heavy moisture, repeated laundry and buyers who have outgrown 20L-class capacity
The 25L adds meaningful extraction inside the same chassis, but it does not add tank volume or fan airflow and it draws more power.
- Removal at 20°C / 60% RH
- 10.85 L/day
- Power at that condition
- 250 W
- Maximum airflow
- 255 m³/h

- No larger tank or higher airflow
- Higher low- and medium-speed noise figures
Choose 20L or 25L in 30 seconds
The 20L is the default large-chassis comparison for regular household moisture and laundry. Move to the 25L when measured heavy moisture or repeated loads keep a 20L-class machine working continuously, and the extra compressor capacity matters more than the higher draw and noise.
| Situation | Starting point | Evidence | Main limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular family laundry or a larger living area | Arete Two 20L | 8.50 L/day at 207 W under 20°C / 60% RH | Still a large 15.1 kg machine |
| Sustained heavy moisture or repeated large loads | Arete Two 25L | 10.85 L/day at 250 W under 20°C / 60% RH | Same tank and airflow as the 20L |
| Cool 10°C room at moderate humidity | Do not upgrade on the label alone | 3.35 versus 3.55 L/day at 60% RH | Only a small extraction gap at that published condition |
| Uncertain household workload | Use the selector and measure runtime | Same chassis makes task completion and kWh decisive | Specification data is not a shared-room test |
The 25L changes the compressor, not the format
The two machines share dimensions, tank volume, operating range and all three airflow settings. Moving from 20L to 25L therefore does not give laundry more fan-driven evaporation or reduce how often a 4.8-litre tank might need emptying. It gives the refrigeration system more extraction capacity.
That is valuable when moisture generation is consistently high. It is less persuasive for a machine that cycles comfortably at target humidity, because unused capacity still cost more to buy and the 25L publishes higher input power.

Condition-matched extraction shows the real upgrade
At 20°C / 60% RH, the 25L publishes 10.85 L/day against 8.50 L/day—about 28% more—with 250 W against 207 W input. At 20°C / 80% RH, the figures are 17.60 versus 13.85 L/day and 264 versus 217 W. That is a genuine capacity gap, but not evidence that every job will finish 28% sooner.
At cooler, moderate conditions the gap narrows: 3.55 versus 3.35 L/day at 10°C / 60% RH. This is why the room and workload matter more than the rated badge, particularly in a cold space where both compressor machines remove much less water.
| Room condition | Arete Two 20L | Arete Two 25L |
|---|---|---|
| 10°C / 60% RH | 3.35 L/day · 176 W | 3.55 L/day · 198 W |
| 20°C / 60% RH | 8.50 L/day · 207 W | 10.85 L/day · 250 W |
| 20°C / 80% RH | 13.85 L/day · 217 W | 17.60 L/day · 264 W |
| 30°C / 80% RH | 20.45 L/day · 271 W | 25.25 L/day · 355 W |
For laundry, the room can erase some of the advantage
Both models top out at 255 m³/h, so the 25L does not blow more air through a crowded clothes rack. If wet fabric cannot evaporate moisture quickly because garments touch, the room is too cold or airflow misses the rack, the larger compressor cannot use all its potential.
For multiple loads, towels or bedding, the 25L's higher extraction may still reduce the period after moisture reaches the air. Compare whole-load kWh and elapsed time rather than assuming the wattage or litre badge alone predicts the result.
Noise and handling favour the 20L slightly
The 20L publishes 38 and 40 dB(A) at its first two settings; the 25L states 40 and 42 dB(A). Both reach 50 dB(A) at high speed. The 25L is also 1 kg heavier, while both occupy the same floor area.
Neither difference automatically decides a utility-room purchase, but they matter if the unit sits near a bedroom or moves between floors. Castors help on one level; they do not make a 16.1 kg appliance pleasant to carry upstairs.
Use this buying rule
Choose the 20L as the default when you want the large tank and high airflow for regular laundry or connected rooms. Move to the 25L when humidity logs, an existing under-sized machine or a sustained high-moisture workload gives a concrete reason for roughly one-quarter more extraction at typical moderate conditions.
Compare the live purchase price, retailer returns and total kWh for completed tasks. Neither model repairs water ingress, a plumbing leak or defective ventilation, and a persistently cold garage may justify comparing desiccant technology instead.
Common questions
Questions this guide should answer
Are the Meaco Arete Two 20L and 25L the same size?
Yes. Meaco publishes 618 × 366 × 272 mm for both. The 25L weighs 16.1 kg versus 15.1 kg for the 20L.
Does the 25L have a bigger water tank?
No. Both have a published 4.8-litre tank and both support continuous drainage with the specified arrangement.
Is the 25L faster for drying clothes?
It has higher extraction capacity, but the two models have the same airflow. Actual drying time depends on load, spacing, temperature and room setup, so a fixed percentage improvement cannot be promised.
Which model is quieter?
The 20L has lower published low- and medium-speed figures. Both are listed at 50 dB(A) on high.
Is the Arete Two 25L worth the extra money?
It can be when you have a sustained heavy moisture load. For moderate work, the 20L keeps the same tank, airflow and controls with lower input power, weight and lower-speed noise.
