From one reading to a useful pattern

Measure home humidity. Then work out why it changes.

A digital hygrometer measures relative humidity. Place it away from direct heat, sunlight, windows and moisture plumes, record temperature and humidity at consistent times for seven days, and judge the pattern—not one peak.

The useful order

Place the sensor well → log repeated readings → compare cold surfaces → identify the moisture source → choose the smallest effective response.

01
Private humidity log

Record humidity for seven days

Keep temperature, relative humidity and room observations together. The log stays in your browser and can be downloaded as CSV.

02
Dew-point checker

Check condensation conditions

Compare room temperature and humidity with a measured surface temperature to see how close that surface is to the calculated dew point.

03
Capacity helper

Estimate a dehumidifier capacity band

Use room volume, temperature, measured humidity and moisture load before comparing appliance sizes.

Step 1

Measure humidity correctly

Start with the right instrument, placement and timing so the number describes the room rather than a radiator, window or short-lived moisture plume.

Important limit

A humidity reading can reveal a pattern. It cannot diagnose a leak, penetrating damp, rising damp, a failed extractor or a cold bridge on its own.
