How we reached this shortlist
This is a specification-led shortlist, not a laboratory ranking. We compared current manufacturer data for extraction at stated conditions, airflow, power, noise, temperature range, tank size, drainage and laundry controls. A product needed enough published evidence for a reader to challenge the recommendation.
We gave extra weight to airflow because moisture must leave the fabric before a dehumidifier can collect it. We also separated heated living spaces from cool utility rooms; one technology does not dominate both situations.
Choose around the room and weekly load
A family drying towels and bedding several times a week benefits from more airflow and a larger tank than one person drying lightweight clothing. Measure the room temperature during the actual drying period, especially overnight. A compressor model that looks efficient at 20°C may remove much less water in a cold utility space.
Check where the appliance will sit, whether the louvre reaches the rack, and whether the tank can be removed without moving wet clothes. Continuous drainage is helpful only if a hose can fall safely to a suitable drain.

What our first laundry test will measure
Each candidate will receive comparable mixed loads from the same washing-machine spin programme. We will record wet and dry mass, room temperature and RH, total kWh, elapsed time, tank water, noise at a fixed distance and any damp fabric remaining at the end.
The winner will be based on useful outcomes: energy per dry load, completion time, noise and ease of use. Until those measurements exist, the page will retain its specification-led label.
Improve the setup before buying a larger machine
Use the highest fabric-safe washer spin, leave gaps between garments and direct airflow through the rack. Keep the measured room controlled rather than opening a window while the dehumidifier is running. Remove garments as they finish.

What size dehumidifier is best for drying clothes?
There is no universal size. A 20-litre-class compressor model provides more airflow and capacity for frequent family loads, while a compact 10-litre model may suit a small room and lighter loads.
Is desiccant or compressor better for laundry?
Compressor models are usually the first category to compare in heated rooms. Desiccant models can remain useful in consistently cool utility spaces but often draw more power.
Can we call these products tested?
No. This page is explicitly specification-led. Better Home Climate will change the evidence label only after completing and publishing its own repeatable load tests.
What matters besides litres per day?
Airflow, room temperature, total kWh per dry load, noise, tank size, drainage and rack setup all affect the real result.
