We compared current manufacturer documentation for cold-temperature operation, removal rate, power, noise, tank volume, weight, timer and continuous drainage. Where reporting methods differ, we show the limitation rather than manufacture a winner.

Why this comparison is harder than it looks
Both products use desiccant technology and advertise a similar daily capacity, but their pages do not report every result in the same format. EcoAir gives a 7.5 L/day rating at 20°C and 60% RH. Meaco gives three speed-specific results at both 10°C and 20°C.
That makes the Zambezi easier to model for a cold garage; it does not automatically prove that it beats the DD1 in a shared test. Only a matched temperature, RH, airflow and energy test could establish that.
Published specifications side by side
Sampling or standby modes should not be compared with active extraction. A machine that draws fewer watts but takes much longer can still use more energy for the required outcome.

Choose for the unattended routine
In a garage or utility space, tank capacity and control schedule can matter more than a small paper efficiency difference. The Zambezi's three-litre tank and daily-run timer reduce intervention. The DD1 is easier to carry and still supports continuous drainage.
A drain hose must fall continuously to a safe drain unless the system includes a pump. Protect it from freezing, kinks and accidental movement. Tank shut-off is safer than an unreliable improvised drain.
Treat outlet heat as part of the system
A desiccant dehumidifier releases useful heat into a cold space. That can raise air and surface temperatures and help reduce relative humidity, but the electricity has not disappeared—it forms part of the appliance's energy cost.
Record room temperature as well as RH and kWh. Comparing only water in the tank ignores moisture leaving through air leakage and the effect of warmer air on the displayed RH.
Our current verdict
Pick the DD1 when portability, a quieter published low mode and simpler controls fit a smaller cold room. Pick the Zambezi when its larger tank, schedule and published 10°C performance justify the extra weight, noise and high-speed draw.
For an insulated room that generally stays above about 10°C, add a compressor dehumidifier to the comparison. It may use substantially less power even though its extraction declines as the room cools.

Is the DD8L Zambezi better than the EcoAir DD1?
It has more detailed cold-condition evidence, a larger tank and richer scheduling. The DD1 is lighter and has lower published figures on its low setting. The better choice depends on the routine.
Which uses less electricity?
The DD1 publishes 300 W on low versus 351 W for the Zambezi's low setting at 20°C / 60% RH. Total kWh depends on extraction rate and runtime, so measure a completed task.
Can either work in a garage?
Both state a 1°C minimum operating temperature. You must still correct water ingress, plan safe drainage and check the manual for placement and unattended operation.
Why not compare only litres per day?
The number changes with temperature and humidity. Reporting conditions and fan speed must match before the figures are comparable.
