Current shortlist

What we would compare first

We required current manufacturer documentation for humidity accuracy, temperature accuracy, logging or display behaviour, connectivity and power. We selected distinct use cases rather than ranking three near-identical screens.

Candidate 01

SwitchBot Meter Plus

Best paper fit: An at-a-glance display with app logging and calibration

Specification-led

The strongest all-round paper choice for a normal room: a large display, stated ±2% RH accuracy in the central range, export and user calibration.

Humidity accuracy
±2% RH at 25°C / 10–90% RH
Temperature accuracy
±0.2°C in normal range
Display
3-inch
Connection
Bluetooth; hub for remote access
Power
2 × AAA; about 1 year stated
Calibration
Supported in app
Why it made the list
  • Large local display
  • User calibration
  • Data export
  • Optional remote access through hub
What to check
  • Hub sold separately
  • Accuracy widens at humidity extremes

Candidate 02

Govee H5075

Best paper fit: Budget Bluetooth history and CSV export

Specification-led

A practical low-cost logger where nearby-phone alerts and a local display are enough, with slightly wider stated humidity accuracy than the other two candidates.

Humidity accuracy
±3% RH
Temperature accuracy
±0.32°C
Display
Yes
Connection
Bluetooth
Export
CSV supported
Power
2 × AAA; about 6 months stated
Why it made the list
  • Display plus logging
  • CSV export
  • App alerts in Bluetooth range
  • Accessible budget category
What to check
  • No native remote Wi-Fi
  • Manufacturer page and FAQ give differing unobstructed range figures
  • Shorter stated battery life

Candidate 03

SensorPush HT.w

Best paper fit: Robust long-term logging and optional remote monitoring

Specification-led

The premium paper candidate for an unobtrusive sensor, long stated battery life and water-resistant housing, especially when paired with the optional G1 gateway.

Humidity accuracy
Typical ±2% RH at 25°C / 10–90% RH
Temperature accuracy
Typical ±0.2°C
Logging

Why it made the list
  • Water-resistant housing
  • Long stated battery life
  • Minute-by-minute history
  • Optional gateway for remote data
What to check
  • No on-device display
  • Gateway is an extra purchase
  • Typical and maximum accuracy are different claims

Pick the monitoring job first

For a quick bedroom check, a readable display may be more useful than cloud access. For condensation investigation, you need history and export. For an outbuilding or second property, remote access and reconnection behaviour become central.

No sensor diagnoses damp. It records air temperature and relative humidity at its location. Pair the data with condensation, weather, occupancy and building observations.

What the accuracy numbers mean

SwitchBot and SensorPush state typical humidity accuracy around ±2% RH in a central range; Govee states ±3% RH. These are manufacturer specifications, not Better Home Climate calibration results, and accuracy can widen at extremes.

A two-point disagreement between consumer sensors may fall within their combined tolerances. Place new devices together for 24 hours, let them stabilise and compare the pattern before applying an offset or declaring one faulty.

Logging and export beat a perfect-looking screen

A morning reading cannot show whether humidity stayed high all night or rose only when the room cooled before dawn. Minute or interval history reveals duration, recovery after showers and the effect of opening doors or running extraction.

Export matters when you need to compare weeks or document a rental problem. Check the app's current account, retention and export requirements before relying on it for a long investigation.

Bluetooth and remote access are different

Bluetooth models normally update the phone only when it is in range, although the sensor may retain readings for later sync. Remote alerts while away require a compatible Wi-Fi gateway or a product with its own network connection.

Walls, floors, metal appliances and interference reduce headline line-of-sight range. Place the gateway where it can reliably hear the sensor rather than using the maximum published distance as a floorplan promise.

How we would test these monitors

Our first test will co-locate all units in a stable occupied room, compare them with a traceable reference across several humidity points, then move them through representative bedroom, bathroom-adjacent and cold-space scenarios. We will inspect missing data, reconnection, export, display legibility and battery behaviour.

Until those results are published, this page will keep its specification-led badge and will not call one device the most accurate based on manufacturer figures alone.

Common questions

Questions this guide should answer

What is the best humidity monitor for a bedroom?

A clear display and quiet operation usually matter most. The SwitchBot Meter Plus is our current specification-led all-round candidate, but it has not yet been independently tested here.

Do I need Wi-Fi?

Not for local checks. You need Wi-Fi or a compatible gateway if you want readings and alerts while your phone is away from Bluetooth range.

Can I calibrate a cheap hygrometer?

Some apps, including SwitchBot's, support an offset. First co-locate sensors and allow them to stabilise; an offset cannot repair drift or poor placement.

How many humidity monitors do I need?

Start with one in the problem room and add a second for a cold corner or comparison room. Several well-placed sensors are more useful than moving one device constantly.
