Current one-bedroom installation range

Better Home Climate's September 2026 calculator starts a straightforward one-room wall-mounted split at £1,580–£2,270. It combines the published equipment and labour bands used in the model, then keeps any electrical upgrade and difficult access separate.

A separate current UK market observation places single-room split installation around £1,500–£3,000. Treat both ranges as budgeting evidence, not a promise: the installer must select the system and inspect the route.

Open the calculator with one room and one single-split unit preselected, then replace the planning assumptions with the surveyed proposal.

Size the bedroom before choosing the product

Floor area alone does not describe the cooling load. Glazing, orientation, roof exposure, insulation, occupants, equipment heat, ceiling height and the target indoor condition all matter.

Ask the installer to show the design load and why the selected indoor and outdoor units are appropriate. Oversizing can create short cycling, noise and weaker humidity control; undersizing can leave the system running hard without reaching the intended condition.

Bedroom noise is a system and placement question

Compare the indoor sound figure at the actual sleep or low-fan mode, not only the quietest marketing number. Discuss where the unit will sit relative to the bed, how air will avoid blowing directly onto sleepers and whether displays or indicator lights can be dimmed.

Outdoor-unit noise, vibration and airflow also affect neighbours and other bedrooms. A compliant product can still be badly positioned, so require the proposal to identify mounting, anti-vibration treatment, service clearance and the basis for the chosen location.

Make the installation route explicit

The quote should show refrigerant pipe and trunking, wall penetrations, condensate fall or pump, outdoor mounting, electrical supply, isolation, scaffold or lifting, decorative making good, pressure test, evacuation, commissioning and warranty registration.

GOV.UK requires the relevant qualifications for work on stationary air-conditioning and heat-pump equipment containing fluorinated greenhouse gases. Verify the business and the person carrying out regulated work rather than relying only on a logo.

  • Confirm landlord, freeholder or lease consent where relevant.
  • Check planning, listed-building and conservation constraints for the property.
  • Keep the condensate route away from nuisance or unsafe discharge points.
  • Require controls training, commissioning records and warranty information at handover.

Decide whether one bedroom should become a multi-room plan

If a second bedroom or home office is likely to follow, ask for a same-scope comparison between separate single splits and a multi-split design. One shared outdoor unit can reduce exterior clutter, but it is not automatically cheaper and it creates shared capacity and a common failure point.

Price today's one-room job separately from the future option. Buying excess outdoor capacity without a documented expansion plan can cost more without improving the bedroom result.

Common questions

Questions this guide should answer

How much does bedroom air conditioning cost to install in the UK?

The site's current straightforward one-room evidence range is £1,580–£2,270 before a separately required electrical upgrade or complex access. Wider current market observations reach about £3,000.

What size air conditioner does a bedroom need?

A room-by-room load calculation should consider dimensions, glazing, sun, roof exposure, insulation, occupants and internal heat. Floor area or bedroom count alone is not enough.

Is a wall-mounted split quiet enough for sleeping?

It can be, but compare the exact indoor sound figure at the mode you will use and discuss airflow, display lights, mounting and outdoor-unit noise before choosing.

Does bedroom AC installation include electrical work?

Only when the proposal says so. Confirm the circuit, local isolation, protective devices, consumer-unit work and testing or certification responsibility.

Do I need an F-gas qualified installer?

Work on regulated refrigerant equipment requires the appropriate qualifications. Check current GOV.UK requirements and verify the business doing the work.
