Air conditioning installation cost calculator.
Build a low, typical and high UK budget for equipment and installation. The result is free, and every allowance stays visible.
Estimated UK installation range
£1,720–£2,630Typical planning figure: £2,130What moves this estimate
- A standard-complexity allowance adds half of the published installer day-rate range.
- The electrical supply has not been confirmed; a fused spur or external isolator could add cost.
- Brand, efficiency, pipe route, condenser position and seasonal installer demand can move the final quote.
Assumptions
- The result is a budgeting estimate for a UK home, not an installer quotation.
- VAT, permits or permissions, unusual access and decorative making-good must be confirmed in writing.
- Postcode is not used to apply an unsupported local price multiplier.
- The single-room base uses Checkatrade's published 12,000 BTU equipment and labour ranges.
Ask each installer to confirm equipment model, capacity, pipe length, condensate route, electrics, access, commissioning, warranty, VAT and making-good in writing.

Want an exact local price?
A survey and written scope are the only reliable way to price unit positions, pipe routes, electrics and permissions.
How the calculation works
Published price bands, adjusted only where the evidence allows.
For a one-room wall-mounted split, the model adds published equipment and labour ranges. Multi-room and ducted results use whole-project market bands, then expose the planning split between equipment and site work.
Standard and complex access add half or one published installer day-rate. A confirmed electrical upgrade adds the published £400–£700 allowance. Property age, postcode and season are shown as quote factors but do not receive invented percentages.
What changes the result
Factors worth checking before you decide.
Number of indoor units and whether they share one outdoor unit.
Cooling capacity, efficiency class, brand and controls.
Pipe length, condensate route and outdoor-unit access.
A suitable electrical supply, isolator and any remedial work.
Freeholder, planning, listed-building or conservation constraints.
Decorative making-good, removal of old equipment and seasonal demand.
Worked examples
See how the assumptions move the answer.
One wall-mounted split, accessible route and confirmed suitable electrics.
Published two-room band plus a standard-complexity half-day allowance; electrical work still needs confirmation.
Broad ducted whole-home band plus one labour day and the published electrical allowance.
Common questions
Questions homeowners ask before spending.
How much does air conditioning cost to install in one UK room?
The current calculator base for a straightforward 12,000 BTU wall-mounted split is £1,580–£2,270 before any electrical addition. It combines Checkatrade's published £620–£890 equipment range and £960–£1,380 labour range. A site-specific quote can be outside that band.
Does the calculator use my postcode?
No. The optional postcode stays in the page for your own quote notes. We do not apply an unsupported postcode multiplier or send it to analytics or a partner.
Is a multi-split always cheaper than separate single splits?
No. One outdoor unit can simplify the exterior, but system design, pipe routes, indoor-unit mix and installation access decide the final price. Compare written scopes, not just totals.
Can I install a split air conditioner myself?
UK work involving F-gas equipment requires the appropriate qualifications. Electrical and building requirements may also apply. Use a suitably qualified installer and verify the scope and certification.
Is this an installer quote?
No. It is a budget range built from published UK cost evidence and explicit model assumptions. Only an installer who has assessed the property can provide a quotation.
