A higher score means more of this checklist appears in the written quote. It does not verify the calculations, equipment, installer, workmanship, consumer protection or suitability for your home. Resolve discrepancies before signing or paying a deposit.

Want an exact local price?
A heat-loss calculation, system design and written scope are needed to price the equipment, emitters, cylinder, electrics and commissioning.
How the calculation works
Compare what is written, not just the total.
The checklist converts 12 documented quote elements into a 100-point completeness score. Heat-loss figures, equipment, design performance, price presentation and MCS/consumer-protection information are treated as essential because a gap can prevent a like-for-like comparison.
Price is separate from completeness. The tool shows the lowest payable amount entered and the most complete paperwork entered without calling either quote the best. All inputs stay in the current browser tab.
What changes the result
Factors worth checking before you decide.
Whether each installer used the same room-by-room heat-loss basis.
The proposed heat-pump capacity, design flow temperature and whole-system seasonal performance.
Emitter, cylinder, controls, electrical and making-good work included in each scope.
The full price before support, the support discount and VAT treatment.
Written exclusions, programme, warranty, servicing and aftercare responsibility.
Current MCS, consumer-code, product and Boiler Upgrade Scheme requirements.
Worked examples
See how the assumptions move the answer.
A low payable total without emitter, electrical or making-good detail is not yet comparable with an all-in scope.
Two designs with different flow temperatures or seasonal performance assumptions may not deliver the same comfort or running cost.
Keep the pre-support price visible, then compare the exact discount and final amount you would pay.
Common questions
Questions homeowners ask before spending.
What should a UK heat-pump quote include?
A useful written quote should let you trace the room-by-room heat loss, proposed equipment, emitter and hot-water design, design flow temperature, seasonal performance estimate, controls, site work, warranties, price before support, support discount and total payable. Inclusions and exclusions should be explicit.
Should I choose the cheapest heat-pump quote?
Not from price alone. A lower total may exclude emitter upgrades, electrical work, a cylinder, making-good or other items included elsewhere. Make the scope comparable, question unusually different designs and check the contract and protections before deciding.
Does the installer need to be MCS certified?
For the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, the installation and application route involves an MCS-certified installer and an appropriate consumer code. Check the current requirements and verify the business directly rather than relying on a logo in a quotation.
How should the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant appear?
The installer applies for the grant and should deduct it from the amount you pay. Compare the full price before support, the support discount and the final payable amount so the underlying prices remain visible.
Does a high checklist score mean an installer is good?
No. The score measures only which checklist items you say appear in the paperwork. It does not validate calculations, accreditations, reviews, financial stability, workmanship, product suitability or contract terms.
